Just the 4 of us

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

I have come back now from taking my in-laws to the airport, so now we will really find out what it means to look after two toddlers. Although it hasn’t been too bad in the few hours so far – Daniele has slept constantly since I returned, and Stefania fell asleep half way through dinner (a bonus for me, because it was my turn to put her to bed), so it has been quite quiet and easy actually. We still have some time to adjust to this new situation, before it gets more interesting (especially for Pinuccia) on the 10th, when all the church activities start and I will be out most evenings. With the band practices already having restarted, she will have a practice run on Friday night.

2 weeks

There isn’t much new to report, except that Daniele is growing, Stefania is having a good time, and I am still able to get a couple of studies prepared each week as well as preparing the new version of my Bible study program. So today I will just add a recent photo of us all.

The First Week

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Daniele turned one week today – which also happens to be a public holiday, so we couldn’t take him to the pharmacy for the first of his weekly weighings as we are supposed to do. Tomorrow will be OK, when we will also get his birth registered. Daniele has adapted well to his new environment, and likes to go out with Daddy in his pouch/harness – at least he keeps going to sleep when he does go out, which is a good sign. Stefania is enthusiastic about having a baby in the house as well, and has quickly learnt how she is allowed to touch him (on the hands not the head, and she can rock him). She had a bit of a problem in the first couple of days when Daniele cried – she would burst out crying as well – but she seems to have got used to it by now. In any case, Daniele only makes a bit of sound when he is hungry; he seems to be so far a quiet baby, like Stefania was.

With my in-laws still here (for another couple of weeks), I still have a fair bit of time for work, especially in the mornings, so for the last couple of days I have restarted work on the Bible study preparation for the autumn (after a week’s pause), and I am managing to get quite a few done.

Daniele Wilson

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

After an induction that lasted 9.5 hours, Pinuccia did it at the end, and Daniele was born at 6.38pm on the 8th. They are both fine, but Pinuccia is pretty much sore all over. Now they are resting, and I will take Stefania to meet her little brother tomorrow morning. The vital statistics are: weight 3230g; length 52.5 cm.

The name is of course the Italian equivalent of Daniel, but the pronunciation is like dan – yay – lay with the accent on the middle syllable.

I have put a few photos of Daniele at http://richardwilson.interfree.it/daniele.htm but will be adding some more in the next couple of days.

Nothing

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

No changes in the last two days, although at the monitoring session this afternoon the baby did seem a bit closer to wanting to come out. In fact, the obstretrician predicted that we would be back at the hospital at 10 o’clock tonight. Otherwise we will be going there at 8am tomorrow for the induction.

Stay tuned!

Still waiting

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

A week overdue today, but the baby is well – too well, maybe, because the womb seems preferable to getting out into the real world. In fact, Stefania thought that the womb was a better place to stay as well. So on Tuesday there is another monitoring session, and if nothing happens in the meantime Pinuccia will be admitted to the hospital and the baby will be induced on Wednesday, 10 days after the due date, just as happened with Stefania. Pinuccia has been ordered by the doctor to do lots of stairs and tiring work and walks, so I will be making her do all the cleaning and shopping for the next few days.
For the rest of the week, my usual work in summer (of study preparation and computer work) went ahead. I also managed to play with the band in a parade and a concert in a town half an hour north of here last night – keeping my eye on my phone all the time, but with no calls.
